AFP: 2 Marines Battalion will position to the Spratly Islands + Brigade

The Philippine Marines will beef up its presence in its command post in Palawan, the western part of the Philippines facing the disputed West Philippine Sea for "internal and territorial defense operations."

Lieutenant Colonel Neil Estrella, spokesman of the Western Command, said that there is "plan in motion" to deploy a brigade headquarters in Palawan.

The brigade headquarters will provide support to the two battalions already stationed in Palawan.

Setting up a brigade headquarters will allow easier access to artillery and armor support units.

Estrella said they need to beef up the two Marine battalions with a brigade because a brigade has more armor, more artillery, and support units. "It's not actually an expansion but more of realigning the troop deployment to enable them to give ample support to their requirements,'' Estrella said in Filipino.

The Philippine Marines used to have a brigade headquarters in the 1970s, but was moved to Mindanao due to the ongoing conflict there.

Meanwhile, Estrella denied being the officer quoted in a report by the Japanese news organization Kyodo as saying US Marines were also seen to set up "an advanced command post" in Palawan.

The report, quoting a senior military officer, said the plan includes deploying 50 to 60 US Marines and converting a 246-hectare Marine Corps reservation in Samariniana town in Brooke's Point, in southeastern Palawan, into a joint marine operational command.

The officer added in the report that the 1.1-kilometer airstrip inside the reservation will be extended to 2.4 km to accommodate big U.S. military transport planes. The construction work was reported to start in September in time for the annual Philippine-U.S. amphibious landing exercise in Palawan.

But Estrella did not confirm the report, and also denied he was the officer quoted in the article.

He said there were also no US Marines the area.

"Sabi ko hindi naman ganun kadali yun, why would I mention that eh hindi naman ako US Embassy (I said it's not really that easy and why would I mention something like that when I'm not from the US Embassy)," he told reporters.

He also said the plans of expanding the airport have been long considered, but for commercial purposes and not for the military.

We need to put up (movable) Skyshield Advanced Airborne Support Jammer (from Israel) and Skyshield Air Defense Support System against threatening aircraft and missiles.

When is the Maestrale frigates and TA-50 fighter jets coming? How about ASW multipurpose helicopters? Our DND needs to acquire Poseidon P-8A at least 3 units and Arleigh Burke Destroyer at least 3 units also.

I hope our government will also fortify an island in the Spratlys, like putting up Sewage water treatment Plant, Hospital, Naval and Airforce base training base.

We dont need to prioritized for the Infrastructure for the Spratly Islands. It is clear to be our and we managed to limit the invasion through the DOC which is signed by the claimant including China.

Reason why after China took over the Panagniban (Mischief) Reef they are not allowed to expand more.

We should be practical to defend our land by sending troupes and establishing Air Strip or airbase if possible and upgrade our necessary armaments but infrastructure for uninhabited island is too unpractical but a move of an idiot and insecure nation like the other claimants.

Who will use the infrastructure if those islands are uninhabitable? its an act of insecurity.

We have lots of islands needs development than in Spratlys.

Its enough we could position lots of Soldiers and even Civilian Volunteers to occupy our territory but the important thing is we should pushed all invaders away by using force.

The International Law of Sea will protect the Philippines if the government is serious in implementing the international laws.

Why dont we welcome civilian volunteers to occupy any islands in spratlys to serve as an eye to out military for any incursion and illegal transaction between other locals who are directly selling golds and other black marketable goods to China?

The illegal transactions of Golds also happened in several islands when China boats visit the territory to buy the produce of the Taksil sa bayan na mga illegal gold miners, wild life threators and etc.

    This must be prioritized.

The incursion of China in the hasa-hasa reef is not an ordinary visit but they are loading black marketable minerals and other goods with local contacts in our territory

Mayroon ba?

Justice delay justice denied. the more we allow China to put up garrison, etc. in the Spratlys the less we can get our Islands there.

When shit hits the fan, those guys are toast. PLAAF aircrafts have the capability to bomb the damn islands and there's nothing we or the US could do about it. It is disputed island and there is no way the Mutual Defense Treaty will apply. Its the Air Force that we need to rearm as quickly as possible.

Long Live the Philippine Air Force, formerly one of Asia's finest during the time of Roxas to Marcos.

You mean SAMs and all? Why don't you just declare war on the PRC? That move is tantamount to war you idiot.

["Its enough we could position lots of Soldiers and even Civilian Volunteers to occupy our territory but the important thing is we should pushed all invaders away by using force."]

We have a military geared to blast insurgents not a highly advance fully trained, and numerous enemy.

Please do some research. Stop posting idiotic posts.

It is difficult to remove/relocate squatters from our country's metropolies.

How much more is it difficult to remove Giant squatters (like China) from our Exclusive Economic Zones?

If he can do these two, our country will be in good hands.

We also need to acquire several Poseidon P-8A aircrafts and ASW or seahawk multipurpose attack helicopters to protect our Exclusive Economic Zones.
